CALELLA DE PALAFRUGELL - LLAFRANC - TAMARIU
|
Welcome to the most beautiful coastline in Spain. Just 75 Kms from the French border and 125 Kms from Barcelona you will be amazed to discover these small fishing villages. High rise apartment blocks and rampant commercialism are nowhere to be seen. Calella, Llafranc and Tamariu have managed to retain their charm and beauty and the area is a favourite with local people from Barcelona and Girona who escape here to enjoy the clear waters, sandy coves and dramatic rocky coastline. Access to this area has become far easier with Ryanair flights to Girona wich is only 50 Km away CALELLA de PALAFRUGELL: has a selection of excellent beaches ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The apartments and villas blend with the hillside and the pine trees wich go right down to the water's edge. The waterfront has an excellent selection of cafés, bars and restaurants which serve a wide variety of international and local dishes. The village itself is quaint with narrow streets, whitewashed town houses and pretty flowers. Nighlife in town revolves around the bars and cafés. There are no discos -you'll find them 2 Kms away where you can dance into the early hours. Most days are spent lazing on the beach. However, sailing, deep sea diving, water skiing and windsurfing are also all available for those who enjoy water sports. The Botanical Gardens in El Golfet are worth a visit as is the beach of the same name. The coastal walk along the Cami de Ronda provides stunning views of the entire area. There are endless opportunities for riding, cycling and walking along the well signposted dirt tracks wich stretch throughout the entire area. Horseriding, squash, tennis, "gokarts" and minigolf are all within easy reach. The area has 3 stunning golf courses - all about 15 mins from Palafrugell LLAFRANC: has one long crescent shaped beach with a small marina at one end. From the other, there is a pleasant walk around the coast to Calella (approx.20 min. The sea front has a sprinkling of family run hotels and restaurants serving good food at affordable prices. TAMARIU: a few kms further north, is the smallest of the original fishing villages with just one beach and small selection of bars and restaurants. SHOPS: all villages have some shopping facilities (Calella has more) but a trip to PALAFRUGELL, the market town, is a must. The market is on every day except Monday where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetalbes. The Sunday market sells everything and spreads through most of Palafrugell. There are plenty of other things to do including visits to Barcelona and Girona, numerous medieval villages tucked away in the countryside, La Bisbal for some local ceramics or antiques and Playa de Aro for leather goods and nightlife. The list is never ending wich is why visitors come back year after year to see us.
